Great Things

Oh God, You have done great things!

  • Are you facing something today that has caused you to forget God’s faithfulness?

  • Are you in a seemingly endless cycle of suffering and pain?

Remember who our God is.

The fullness of God is above our comprehension yet in His infinite grace He has revealed truths about Himself that we can comprehend. But what is amazing is even the truths we can comprehend about God are nowhere near the ultimate truth of who He is. He is vastly greater than we will ever know and He loves us more deeply than we will ever believe.

Scripture reveals so many truths of God's nature, beauty, glory, majesty, work, and countless other characteristics. Scripture reveals a God who is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and righteousness. Scripture reveals a God who willingly chose to become part of His creation so that He could die by the hand of His creation in order to save His creation. That's no small thing.

We celebrate this moment every week because we need to be constantly reminded of the great things that God has done. There is no greater love than this. There’s nothing greater to celebrate. There’s no person more worthy of being praised than the one who has done all of these great things!

Christ is the “Hero of heaven” who has “conquered the grave.” He is the One to whom all of the angels and elders are singing endless praise. He is the One who has been faithful throughout all of history and will be faithful for all of eternity.

God is above all of the pain and suffering and brokenness of this world. God is unshakable and will never change because of our circumstances. God has done great things! God will do great things! The freedom that we have in Christ is enough to make us jump for joy. And we must remember that nothing we face will ever separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus because we are, ourselves, in Christ Jesus.

Scripture

---

Luke 4:18-19

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”

John 15:13

“Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.”

1 Corinthians 15:55-57

“”O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Romans 8:38-39

“For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
